Spelling & High Frequency Words

Please make sure that your student is practicing the High Frequency word cards that are coming home each week.  A lot of them are repeated week after week as part of the curriculum.  Students are tested in isolation as well as in a sentence weekly.  A lot of students are struggling with recognizing these words.  They do not need to know how to spell them but should recognize them by sight.

A lot of students are also struggling with spelling our words on Friday.  Please make sure that students are practicing their words in addition to their nightly homework.

As always please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Ch-ch-changes!

Happy Monday! As you may notice there are some changes to your child's normal homework that they are bringing home.  We have officially begun into Unit 1 of our new reading series and along with that there are some changes to our daily homework.

Think-Tac-Toe will come home on Mondays and an assignment will be due each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  On Thursdays I will send home a poem for students to find the blends. Below is this week's Think-Tac-Toe.

There are now 8 words that students will learn on Monday and the last last two will be dictated on the day of the spelling test.  Students will know the pattern and be able to apply what they know from our working with words throughout the week.

Oral Presentations:

Students brought home a calendar explaining this oral communication project over a week ago.  1 student came prepared for the presentation.  Students do not have to write anything if they are able to remember what they practiced.  Please make sure that your student is prepared.  I have attached the calendar for reference if you need it.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Homework Help

As students pack up to leave they must have their agenda and homework folder out on their desk before they pack up.  Something magical has been happening in which their folder or agenda is not making it home.
In this case, please remind students that they are to come into school and go to the office to ask for Homework Help.  They will be permitted to come back to the room grab their homework and then complete it with the Homework Help teacher.  This way, they will not have a missed homework assignment for that day.

Also, please make sure when signing their agenda that they have completed all their homework.  By signing off each day, you are validating they have completed their homework.

Please let me know if you have any questions!  Thank you in advance for your help!

Lunch Money!

Happy Tuesday!  I hope that everyone is having a great week and fighting off all of the little bugs going around!  We have had quite a few kids out over the past week so I am hoping we will all be over it soon!

Lunch Money:

A lot of students have been bringing in cash for lunch not in an envelope or plastic bag as well as without a name.

Please make sure when sending money to school that it is in a baggie or an envelope with their name on it.  This way we can ensure that they are getting down to the cafeteria and into the correct lunch accounts.

Please also make sure that this is in their folder.  When it is in their book bag, many times it does not come out until lunch or the end of the day and they put it on my desk.  I know that for a lot of students and families this is all brand new so thank you for helping make this easier for everyone.

A parent recently sent her lunch money in one of the envelopes that she got out of bill mailings and I thought that was quite clever!  A simple way to not spend a dime and recycle!

Thank you in advance for understanding how smoothly this makes morning check in and lunch time!

Have a great rest of the week!
